FITCH S LECTURES ON CONSUMPTION THE FUNCTION OF THE LUNGS 1865 30 ILLUSTRATIONS. Attention Doctors and those of you who collect vintage medical books; this one is a little gem. I am pleased to offer (and bear with me as the full title is quite lengthy): Six Lectures on the Functions of the Lungs, by Samuel Sheldon Fitch. The sub-title goes on, to wit: and Causes, Prevention, and Cure of Pulmonary Consumption, Asthma and Diseases of the Heart; on the Laws of Life; and on the Mode of Preserving Male and Female Health to a Hundred Years. Hmm.maybe I should read this book rather than sell it! This small hard cover book (4 ¾ x 7 ¼ inches, 351 pages plus several pages of advertisements for the Author/Doctor and his colleagues, the equipment they sell and the ailments they treat) was published by King & Chambre, fellow doctors of the Author, in New York, dated 1865. The book is bound in brown, blind-stamped cloth with gilt titles on the spine. The book includes, as noted on the title page, 30 illustrations and a handsome engraved portrait of the Author/Doctor as a Frontispiece. Condition: This book is in very good condition, especially considering its age and original make-up (blind-stamped brown paper covered boards). The hard covers are not too bad, some bumping and rubbing to corners and spine tips and a few small spots of finish loss on the rear board. The gilt titles are a bit worn and not as bright as originally. The book is unmarked, but the interior pages show a good deal of foxing, nothing too severe and nothing that obscures the readability (please see the photos to judge for yourself). The hinges are starting but just barely and the binding is still tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.…
