Print on Demand. This book delves into the origins and development of the Christian Church during its early centuries. Starting with the Jewish nation, revered as a chosen people called by God, the author traces how they were set apart as witnesses to His righteous nature. The book examines how the office of Priest, King, and Prophet, and the figure of the Messiah, all pointed toward a larger plan that encompassed more than just the Jewish nation. The author then explores how the Greek and Roman empires interacted with both the Jewish people and the nascent Church, showing how God's providence played out amidst the rise and fall of civilizations. This fascinating narrative sheds light on the intricate tapestry of events that shaped Christianity into the global force it is today, offering valuable insights into the nature of God's purpose and the evolution of religious thought and practice. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

These Lectures have never been delivered any where. When my connexion with King's College ceased, I was asked by a kind friend to authorize the publication of the notes which some of the students had taken down from my lips. He was aware that my Lectures were extempore, and that I had no reports Of my own by which I could correct theirs. Nevertheless, he fancied that he should be able to trace my meaning, and to present it in an intel ligible form to the reader: he even insisted that I should leave the matter wholly in his hands; an arrangement to which, except for his sake, I willingly consented.
