This book examines the relationship between Lebanon and the Arab world during 1936 - 1945, a period characterized by significant changes on the international, Arab and Lebanese scenes. It follows the development of Lebanon from a state which identified with anti-Arabism to one which came to be a founding member of a collective Arab system. The book analyses the major reasons for and effects of this development. It underlines the attempts to exclude Arab nationalists from the political process and the impact of this policy on the development of democracy in Lebanon. #21518.
