About this Item
Voluptuous green cloth over boards blind-stamped with an art nouveau design, lettered in bright gilt to front & spine, encases this lovely copy of Whitman's most beloved work. First published in this DAC format in 1897 by Harned & Traubel, Whitman's literary executors, this is a 1908 edition (First, thus). Octavo, in 455 pages with Index of First Lines in rear, frontispiece is the steel engraving of Whitman from the very first edition, which has produced a bit of offsetting to the facing title page. Condition is VG: very clean, text block strong & straight, but rear hinge is cracked, as is gutter between front free & next endpaper. Pages are creamy white with moderate tanning, heavier to edges, unmarked save for a lovely gift inscription to ffep dated 1910, where the giver offers this book to a friend who is "one of the few decent men who can understand the true worth of Walt Whitman." If you have such a man in your life, this book is for him! Old name label inside front cover. Externally, there is moderate rubbing to extremities & bumping/slight cloth loss to all corners & both ends of spine, exposing underlying headband at top edge. No DJ (likely as issued). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day. Seller Inventory # 024292
