Some men know how to survive a crisis. Caden Cole has never been very good at surviving the quiet afterward.
Staff Sergeant Caden Cole is good at being needed. Give him a broken plan, a miserable training exercise, or somebody depending on him, and he knows exactly who to be. What he does not know how to handle is Simon Lam.
Simon is controlled where Caden is impulsive, dryly funny where Caden is impossible, and disciplined enough to recognize trouble long before Caden admits he is causing it. What begins during a rain-soaked Army assignment in Germany as irritation, banter, and an attraction neither man intends to take seriously becomes something considerably harder to leave behind.
Then Caden invites Simon home for Christmas.
At his family's lakeside inn in North Carolina, military schedules give way to meddling relatives, bad decorations, snow, old grief, and the dangerous possibility of an ordinary life together. For the first time, Simon begins to believe that Caden might mean it when he talks about after.
Until Simon discovers that Caden has already made a decision about their future without him.
What follows is not a question of whether two men love each other. It is whether love can survive distance, duty, grief, changing orders, missed weekends, and the habits they learned long before they met.
Comical, sexy, soft, and emotionally tight, The Leave Between Us is a contemporary gay military romance about two men discovering that courage is not only running toward the emergency.
Sometimes it is staying when nothing needs fixing.
