Add to basketCoreOS is an Open Source operating system developed upon the Linux Kernel. The rise of CoreOS is directly related with the rise of Docker (a Linux container management system). It is a minimal operating system layer and takes a different approach to automating the deployment of containers.
This book is all about setting up, deploying, and using it for managing clusters and clouds. The books start with the explanation about other available orchestration for virtual machines by also setting the context on what is the need for CoreOS in the first place and the problems it solves. It makes us understand what CoreOS is and its benefits as a cloud orchestration platform. Then we are taught to set up a simple CoreOS instance with single node in the cluster and run docker container inside the CoreOS instance. The book then proceeds to introduce us to Fleet and Systemd, deploy and distribute docker services across different nodes in cluster using Fleet. Later, we are briefed about running services in cluster with constraints, publishing the services already running in the cluster to new services, and making your service interact with each other. The book concludes by teaching us about the advanced Container networking. By the end of the book, the readers will know the salient features of CoreOS and will be able to deploy, administrate, and secure a CoreOS environment.
Shantanu Agrawal has 15 years of experience in Telecom domain. The domain requires distributed systems involving high transaction rates and requiring scalable architecture. He has vast experience in Telecom core networks, 3GPP protocols especially on location based services. He is currently working as Specialist in an MNC. He holds a Post Graduate degree in Software engineering from BITS Pilani and B-Tech in Mechanical from IIT-Varanasi.
Kingston Smiler. S is a seasoned professional with more than 11 years of experience in software development and pre-sales, encompassing a wide range of skill sets, roles, and industry verticals. He has solid expertise in data communication networking, software-based switching and routing solutions, and virtualization platforms such as OpenStack, OpenDaylight Controller, Docker containers, CoreOS, Wireless sensor networks, and so on.
He is currently working as an advisor and technical consultant for networking companies in the development of Layer 2 and Layer 3 IP protocols. Kingston also works on various technologies such as MVC-based web and Windows applications, e-commerce frameworks, open source IoT frameworks, single-board computers such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino Intel Galileo, and so on.
He is active in various networking standard bodies such as IETF, IEEE, and ONF. He has proposed a couple of drafts in the MPLS working group of IETF. With the current surge in SDN, virtualization, and NFV, his primary focus is in these areas. Kingston completed a BE in computer science from Madras University.
