"The Learn to Study Readers" is a foundational educational series designed to transform the way students engage with the written word, moving beyond mere oral recitation toward functional literacy and critical comprehension. Developed by influential educators Ernest Horn, Mabel Snedaker, and Bess Goodykoontz, this work focuses on the essential skills required for effective academic study and independent research.

The lessons within this series are meticulously structured to help pupils master four fundamental abilities: locating information, comprehending what is read, evaluating the value of data, and organizing facts for future use. Unlike standard literary readers of its era, this collection emphasizes factual and informational texts, teaching students how to approach textbooks and reference materials with purpose and precision.

By prioritizing silent reading and analytical thinking, "The Learn to Study Readers" represents a significant milestone in the history of American pedagogy. It provides a structured methodology for developing the cognitive tools necessary for lifelong learning. This work remains a valuable resource for those interested in the evolution of teaching methods, literacy instruction, and the development of modern study skills.
