"The Latin Versions of Judith" is a meticulous scholarly investigation into the textual history and linguistic evolution of the Book of Judith within the Latin tradition. This work examines the transition and transformation of the biblical narrative from its Greek origins into various Latin forms, primarily focusing on the Old Latin (Vetus Latina) versions and the later Vulgate version attributed to Saint Jerome.

The study provides a critical analysis of manuscript evidence, offering significant insights into the philological challenges and theological motivations that shaped the Latin rendering of this important deuterocanonical text. By comparing disparate versions and fragments, the author highlights the stylistic variations and translational choices that have influenced the reception of the story of Judith throughout Western history. This volume serves as an essential resource for researchers in biblical studies, historical linguistics, and medieval literature, providing a deep dive into the complexities of ancient textual transmission. It remains a vital contribution to the field of textual criticism, preserving a detailed record of how one of the most compelling figures of the biblical era was interpreted and reinterpreted through the lens of the Latin language.
