xii+197 pages with indices. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 51/4") bound in original publisher's red cloth with gilt lettering to spine in original jacket. First published in 1958. In this work Humphreys seeks to unlock the doors to the great body of writings on Latin American history in the English language. Designed both for the student and for the general reader, it ranges from pre-conquest times to the present; it provides a much need guide to the provides a much needed guide to the periodical and monographic literature; and it surveys also the printed sources materials and the literature of travel and description. There are two indexes, one biographical index, the other an index of authors, editors and translators containing some 2,200 entries. Condition: Tape stain on covers and end paper, previous owner's name on front endpaper. Jacket soiled, corners and spine ends lightly chipped else about a very good copy in like jacket.
