Hundreds of composers are represented in this volume, which presents biographical data, including dates of birth and death, personal information about composers background and training, and a selective listing of each composers works. Sources for further study are noted within each entry. An index of composers by country rounds out this work.

About the Author: Martha Furman Schleifer taught at Temple University and was senior editor of the Hildegard Publishing Co. She coedited the first and second editions of Latin American Composers: A Biographical Dictionary along with Women Composers: Music Through the Ages (8 volumes) and Three Centuries of American Music (12 volumes). As author of many books and articles on women and American composers, she has contributed to The New Grove Dictionary of Women Composers and The Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians.
