The history of Ireland is studded with tragedies. Perhaps none is more poignant than the battle of Kinsale. At Kinsale, the Gaelic nobility that had held sway over Ireland for two millenia was finally crushed by British invaders. For four centuries, Irish homerule would be replaced by English domination. The Gaelic survivors, finding their families slaughtered, flee, entrusting their survival to the last true Gaelic prince, Donal Cam O'Sullivan. This is his remarkable saga, and the story of the Irish struggle to survive.
