"Owen Suffolk - the prison poet of Australia. was a clerk in the Postoffice in London, and was transported for stealing a registered letter". Owen Hargraves Suffolk (born 1830?- ?) was a convict writer whose experiences provided the material for his book 'Days of Crime and Years of Suffering", which led to the creation of a Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society. Advertising brochure for the infamous ship "Success" owned by an American captain D. H. Smith, who exhibited it around the world as "an educational object lesson in Prison Reform". 8vo, 16pp. Pictorial paper wrappers, with b&w photograph of the ship with "convict ship" painted in large white letters on her side, framed by an illustration of a life saver, and with advertising text below the image. Rear wrapper with another b&w photographic image of the ship and hours of operation. Internally, text describing the history of the ship, the catalogue of exhibits, "descend to cells", "descend to lower deck", "In Officers' Quarters on Main Deck", reviews in the media, and testimonials.
