Dans le Paris du XVIIᵉ siècle, alors que les comédies de Molière triomphent sur les scènes de la capitale, une série de meurtres atrocement mis en scène vient troubler l’ordre public. Chaque crime semble répondre à une pièce récemment jouée. Chaque victime incarne un vice moqué sur scène. Comme si le théâtre avait quitté les planches pour s’incarner dans la rue, et que la satire, soudain, exigeait réparation.
L’assassin malgré lui est un roman historique et psychologique qui explore la puissance des mots et la responsabilité de l’auteur face à ceux qui les reçoivent. À travers une intrigue tendue, il interroge une question vertigineuse : que se passe-t-il lorsqu’une œuvre destinée à corriger les mœurs par le rire est prise au pied de la lettre par un esprit fanatique ?
Au cœur du récit se trouve Baptiste Lenoir, copiste discret, familier des textes et des coulisses du théâtre. En observant les crimes et leurs mises en scène troublantes, il comprend peu à peu qu’un lecteur obsessionnel s’est approprié l’œuvre de Molière pour en devenir le prolongement sanglant. Pour cet homme, le dramaturge ne va pas assez loin. Il montre les vices, mais ne les punit pas. Là où la comédie s’arrête, lui agit.
L’assassin ne se vit pas comme un criminel, mais comme un moraliste. Un justicier. Un continuateur. Il croit réduire l’écart entre la parole et l’acte, entre le rire et la sanction. En cela, il est un assassin « malgré lui » : non par accident, mais par dérive. Par refus du doute. Par incapacité à accepter que la vérité puisse être multiple, ambigüe, inconfortable.
Le roman ne cherche jamais à faire de Molière un coupable. Bien au contraire, il met en lumière la tragédie du créateur confronté à la déformation de son œuvre. L’assassin malgré lui interroge la réception des idées, la responsabilité collective, et la facilité avec laquelle une pensée peut devenir violente lorsqu’elle est privée de distance critique.
Entre comédie et tragédie, satire et châtiment, le récit fait dialoguer la scène et la rue, le texte et le sang, l’intention et la conséquence. Les rues de Paris, les loges, les imprimeries et les salons deviennent autant de lieux où se joue une même question : peut-on être responsable de ce que l’on inspire, sans l’avoir voulu ?
Par son écriture dense, visuelle et incarnée, par son ancrage historique rigoureux et sa portée profondément actuelle, L’assassin malgré lui s’adresse à un lectorat adulte, amateur de romans historiques, de thrillers littéraires et de fictions qui interrogent le pouvoir du langage et la frontière fragile entre dénoncer et inciter.

Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
