224pp, green boards with gilt titles and the Darlington Coat of Arms. The contents in excellent condition, with a touch of foxing, the boards a little edge worn & rubbed. Solicitor Francis Mewburn of Darlington was said to be the legal brains behind the Stockton & Darlington Railway, which was being promoted by 'father of English railways' Edward Pease. Mewburn was responsible for seeing the application to build the railway through Parliament - the Act authorising the railway received Royal Assent in 1821. Mewburn lived in Larchfield Street in Darlington, hence the title of this work. A rare book - only the second we have had. Seller Inventory # 236
