Oblong etching after Franz Niklaus König (Bern 1765-Bern 1832), showing the Swiss militia in a procession led by a male drummer and female transverse flute player, followed by women and children holding agricultural implements over their shoulders. Lettered below image with title (see above), and "F.N. König del.", "H. Lips sculp." 7,7 x 10,9 cm.*Nagler VIII, 512 No. 24. In database British Museum. For the Landsturm militia, the armed population was called for resistance against the invasion by the enemy, using any weapons available. Johann Heinrich Lips was a Swiss painter, draftsman and printmaker. Franz Niklaus König was a Swiss painter, printmaker and author. - Very slightly thumbed. With very ample margins.[(5953)].
