First edition, published in May 1810 in an edition of 2,000 copies at two guineas. Quarto (27.5 x 21.5cm). pp. [viii],290,cxxix. Half-title not bound in. With a frontispiece portrait by Saxton & engraved by Heath. Some very occasional light foxing. Old print of Scott & friends pasted to verso of front free endpaper. Bound in contemporary diced calf, the spine in six panels, gilt, lightly faded, leading hinge slighty cracked head & tail of spine, but quite sound & tight, marbled endpapers, the whole a little rubbed, but in fact a superior copy of a very popular work that was much read through its era & beyond. Engraved armorial bookplate of Oliver Brett, 3rd Viscount Esher, and also plate of Eric Quale, noted bibliophile & author of books on Scott and the Ballantynes. Vg.
