Item description from seller

THE LONG ARM OF LEE - 2 Volume Set - is a seminal historical work written by Jennings Cropper Wise (1881–1968). First published in 1915, it remains one of the most authoritative studies on the role of the Confederate artillery during the American Civil War. The books are in good condition reflecting the quality of our private family library. The title refers to the artillery of General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. In military parlance, artillery is often called the "long arm" because of its ability to strike the enemy from a distance. Subject: It provides a detailed tactical and organizational history of how the Confederate artillery evolved from a collection of independent batteries into a highly effective, centralized corps. Significance: Wise was one of the first historians to argue that the artillery was not just a supporting branch, but a decisive factor in many of the South's tactical successes. Structure: Usually published in two volumes, it covers the conflict from the early battles (like Bull Run) to the final surrender at Appomattox. FREE STANDARD SHIPPING WITHIN CONTIGUOUS U.S.
