Paperback. In each of the six stories that make up No Loitering (Prohibido Hanguear), Esteban Escalona presents us with a gallery of endearing and disconcerting characters: from a fraternal little mouse and a ruthless real estate agent, to a disoriented immigrant in search of love and a father separated from his daughter. With agile, ironic, and sensitive prose, Escalona makes us feel the vital force that arises from the collision between what has been lost and what is longed for, between origin and destiny; that powerful force we call desire."This is a book that tells the story of New York, entering its neighborhoods with a new and refreshing sensitivity-one that resists the heavy tide of pessimism weighing down the world. And yet, it is no less profound or political for it. On the contrary: this book pulls the brightest light out of New York's darkest basements."Giovanna Rivero"The characters in No Loitering (Prohibido Hanguear) embody the distinctions that define their lives and the urban space they inhabit. In the stories that make up the collection, the perspectives transgress by revealing and re-creating aspects of reality the reader thought they already knew. These characters confront urban myths, individualism, rootlessness, and the notion of borders within the private sphere. In these tensions lie both the act of resistance and the attachment to life."Pablo Garcia Gamez This item is printed on demand.
