Bound in contemporary dark blue cloth; spine with contrasting maroon morocco title label, gilt. Deckled edges. Some pages uncut. A little age related wear, but otherwise a very good copy. Ragnar Lodbrok ('shaggy breeches') was a Viking hero and a legendary Scandinavian ruler of the ninth century, reputed to have raided the British Isles and Holy Roman Empire. This Copenhagen edition in three languages also contains an extensive glossary and notes by the editor, The Rev. James Johnstone (d. 1798), Chaplain to the British envoy to Denmark, 1779-82. He was a collector of Icelandic manuscripts and transcripts (now in Trinity College, Dublin) and historian of the early Nordic nations, in their relationships with the British Isles. (ESTC T41122).
