A list of all whaling vessels operating out of San Francisco, with the names of the crew members given, with blank columns for recording crew members shares and advances. This copy is heavily annotated on several pages: the index is annotated with dates and numbers next to the names of ships, and three pages of crew lists are annotated with evaluations of individual crew members. The crew member evaluations are brief, such as "Good man" (Paul Peterson), "Not good for Winter" (Felix Aflaque), "Would not take" (T.L. Ellis), and "Stinker" (Master H.H. Bodfish).
