8vo. 8.25 x 6.75 inches. Unpaginated. [46] leaves + [36] pp. publisher's advertisements. Bound in original dark green cloth, gilt, with black decorative borders on front enclosing ornamental title, gilt. Some wear to extremities, including corners and head and tail of spine. Hinges starting to crack but otherwise a very good copy. 1940 signature on front pastedown. Illustrated by 45 leaves of outline decorative designs on 25 of which crests and seals have been fixed (although not all pages completely filled in ). Total no. of crests and seals, c.220. An album set out for collectors to stick in crests which they could purchase from the firm of William Lincoln. This later edition (following that of around 1890) also includes four full pages of seals. The publisher, William Simpson Lincoln (1844-1922) established what may have been the world's first stamp shop in London in 1859. The business stock, including presumably the crest and stamp albums, was transferred to Stanley Gibbons in 1931. (GBPS Stamp Dealer Mail website).
