The seventeen hundred examples gathered here stem from some twenty printed sources dating from 1870 to 1952 and from three oral collections. A chronological list of the sources used follows and each limerick is dated. There is a full Index, of names and rhymes, and a few folklore parallels are made with explanations given. The chapter-titles are those of Lapes in Limerick, the Michigan collection.
