Brown cloth, spine heel frayed with surface cloth loss, spine's gilt title lettering remains bright, light mottling and some staining at top of floral decorated front board, stronger moisture staining at top half of rear board. Some tearing to paper along rear joint but binding is firm; front free endpaper detached; moisture staining affecting interior leaves but most prevalent at rear. With frontispiece b/w portrait and one b/w full page illustration amongst text. Only a good copy. Copyright page cites 1830 but binding and paper seem more contemporary to perhaps 1840-1850. Page 5 summarizes book as "compiled from a memoir of Oberlin, published in London in 1829, the principle materials of which were derived from a notice of his life, published in Paris in 1826." Biography of Alsatian minister Jean Frederic Oberlin (1740-1826) whose name is also variously translated as John Frederic Oberlin or Johann Friedrich Oberlin.
