f/piece+ t.p.+xix+(1, directions to the binder)+496, 7 unf.plates, 4 further full page engravings (all as called for); ex-London Spiritualist Alliance Library with their pocket & card on fr.pastedown, loan-sheet fr.endpaper (never borrowed!) and further 'Rules' and loan sheet on next, recto blue, page which is nearly detached, , their oval colourless impressed stamp top outer corner t.p., there is a further, verso blue, endpaper before normal endpaper at rear; there is quite extensive foxing and browning, affecting f/piece. t.p., 3 of the unf.plates, pp.337-352, one of the other figures (with offsetting to facing page) and verso rear endpaper, the second fr.endpaper is nearly detached and gutter open (though secure) with paper quite ragged, recto side of f/peice also very foxed, finally there is a sm.gilt modern ownership label top fr.pastedown (mine, alas). Notwithstanding all the foregoing this is a tight, complete, copy of the 3rd edition of this historically important work, the blue cloth covers are minimally worn, though spine is a little sun-faded, sp.lettering gilt, a lib number + letter, fairly innocuous, towards bottom. Whether the lib.provenance is a fault or adds something is a matter of opinion. Seller Inventory # 006172
