Complet in 10 volumes. Printed circa 1885. This is an exceedingly early set of Irving. Set has some damage. The leather has cracking and splitting, as mentioned in the condition paragraph below. This set is over 150 years old. It is complete with all 10 volumes. Printed by G. P. Putnam's Sons.At their West Street address. No Date is printed on the title page.Printed between 1874 and 1889. (By 1889 the publisher's address was changed to the Knickerbocker Press Building.)"In 1874, the company established its own book printing and manufacturing office, set up by John Putnam and operating initially out of newly leased premises at 182 Fifth Avenue. This printing side of the business later became a separate division called the Knickerbocker Press, and was relocated in 1889 to the Knickerbocker Press Building, built specifically for the press in New Rochelle, New York." This is the Kinderhook Edition. This is an exceedingly early set of Irving. This is a nice antiquarian set of Irving. CONDITION : This set is still bound in the original leather bindings from the Victorian Era (late 1800's). The leather bindings have generalized wear and cracking. The internal hinges are all strong, in that the leather is not structural to the binding strength, but there is external cracking and splitting, especially along the hinge area of the bindings, with some spine lift along the hinge areas, some of which can not be seen in the pictures, and along the spine extremities. The hinges are all strongly attached. This set has a lot of generalized wear and cracking but is still a nice antiquarian library set bound in leather. These are the original bindings. This set is not a good purchase where condition is critical. Still, this is an early antiquarian set of Washington Irving, bound in leather, and has value as such. Each book will be individually wrapped and well protected for shipping.I have extensive experience shipping large antiquarian sets. This set is bound in the original leather bindings.Raised hubs.Marbled end papers.Printed on quality paper. With additional double steel engraved titles. This is an exceptionally high quality set, and a pleasure to read. Each book will be individually wrapped and well protected for shipping. 2052 OOTrev.
