Small 8vo. [4], 1-592, [2] pp. Quarter brown sheep made to look like morocco over brown paper boards, spine in six compartments with gilt lettering and decorations on the spine. Marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of De Staël. The author was a significant French writer, active during the French Revolution and a vocal critic of Napoleon. Her travels to Germany took place while she was exiled from Paris (by Napoleon). Her book was intended to criticize the French political structure. Light rubbing to the extremities, leaves toned.
