2nd edition of the 1929 original. XVI, 443 PP, plus 2 plates with 40 House Flags in colour, 17 plans (16 of them folded one) and 96 plates with 173 b/w illustrations (paintings, photos, portraits). Eps: Chart of the world. Cloth cover, gilt device on front cover, gilt title on a lightly sunned spine. Copy lacking half title page and frontispiece. Covers lightly soiled. Ex "Circulating Library" with plate on front board and stamp on recto of rear endpaper. Spine with tears and back hinge split at head. Occasional foxing. Internally a very good clean copy. 25 x 19.5. The last boom in sail, the lime-juicers, the carriers of the 90's, the square-riggers of the 20th century, small fry.
