8vo. 8.25 x 5.5 inches. 248 pp. Bound in original maroon cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has repaired tear on front wrapper and edge wear, including chips at head and tail of spine. Minor wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good copy. Bookplate. Illustrated by 8 pages of black and white plates, including facsimiles and by 2 maps in text. Decorated by publisher's device on title page. Memoirs of the Scot Robert Hay, who ran away to sea to join the Royal Navy in 1803 and sailed to the East Indies under Pellew. He deserted after arriving home at Plymouth in a violent storm and had further adventures in a merchantman taking him to the West Indies, only to fall a victim to the Press Gang on his return but managing to escape. Edited from his memoirs (some of which he used in articles appearing in the Paisley Magazine),by his great-grand-daughter, including a postscript.
