About this Item

Description:

Illustrated with 3 plates of genealogies (two folding), the third tipped to the inner edge of the second, 1 folding plate depicting a plan & view of the Temple of Mecca. Rubricated title page (several ex-library stamps and one hole from eradicated signature). [6], iii-xii, 187, [1], 508 + [15 table] pages. Thick 4to, bound in older full tan leather with black spine label (rubbed and with some repairs to joints; pages generally clean but with some scattered foxing and irregular toning). London: C. Ackers for J. Wilcox, 1734. Overall a very good solid copy, but sadly lacking the folding map of Arabia. Published in 1734, this is the first edition of the Qur'an to have been translated into English directly from Arabic, becoming a landmark text in Qur'anic studies. Seller Inventory # 332146
