About this Item
2 exhibition catalogues from the same traveling exhibition as follows: Kolonistugan: 16 cards printed on black glossy card, loose in matte paper jewel-case style box with fold-out flap. Black and white photo illustrations. Exhibition catalogue accompanying a show at the Arkitekturmuseet, now known as the Swedish Centre of Architecture and Design in 1996. In which 15 internationally reknowned architects were invited to conceive their own version of a Kolonistuga, a structure borne of a 19th century Danish urban initiative to lease tiny plots of land to workers on the outskirts of crowded Danish cities. These little parcels of land were intended to give workers access to fresh air and an opportunity to build themselves humble structures in which to garden, rest, and recreate. This catalogue presents 15 Kolonistuga structures as well as their respective architect's personal notes on the models. Included are Heikkinen & Komonen, Enric Miralles, Soren Robert Lund, Dominique Perreault, Henning Larsen, Richard Rogers, Aldo Rossi, Leon Krier, Alvaro Siza, Richard Meier, Mario Botta, Ralph Erskine, Michael Graves, Arata Isozaki, and Josef Paul Kleihues. Loose cards in excellent condition. The box housing the cards with mild shelfwear. It was previously sealed with a circular, glossy sticker, which on this copy has been cut open; the sticker remains adhered to the box. Uncommon example of this unique bit of design history. Kolonihaven: First edition softcover in black wraps with French flaps. With color illustrations throughout. Text in Danish. Separated into two inverted sections. Clean, internally unmarked, well bound. Published on the occasion of the exhibition, held at the Arken Museum for Moderne Kunst, Copenhagen, July 20-Sept. 1, 1996. "Danish kolonihave were tiny gardens alloted to workers starting in the 1880's, who tried to prettify the garden storage sheds as best they could. Thirteen architects, including the Americans Richard Meier and Michael Graves, designed modern versions of these structures". Tiny bit of edge to lower edge of cover. One forecorner minorly bumped. Nice example of this uncommon edition. Seller Inventory # ABE-1690652981114
