By Arthur T. Pierson (A.T. Pierson)
Master the sacred rules and proven methods of handling God's Word with this monumental classic on biblical hermeneutics—now beautifully restored in a premium new edition.
The Bible is a divine library of infinite depth, yet many believers approach its pages without a clear method, drifting from verse to verse without ever grasping the deep structural harmony of the text. If we are to grow in grace and truth, we cannot rely on surface-level readings or casual emotional impressions. We must learn how to handle the Word of Truth with the skill of a master builder.
In Knowing the Scriptures, legendary 19th-century theologian, author, and global missionary advocate Dr. A.T. Pierson delivers what is widely considered his definitive masterpiece on Bible study. Far from a dry, academic textbook on hermeneutics—the science of biblical interpretation—this volume is a vibrant, deeply spiritual roadmap that hands you the operational keys to unlocking the riches of God's Word.
Dr. Pierson systematically lays out fifty distinct rules and methods of Bible study. With exceptional clarity, rigorous scriptural proof, and the warm heart of a seasoned pastor, he demonstrates how to allow Scripture to interpret Scripture, exposing the marvelous patterns, types, and mathematical precision woven throughout the Old and New Testaments.
What you will master inside this theological classic:-
The Foundational Rules of Interpretation: Learn the indispensable laws of context, comparison, first mention, and progressive revelation that protect against false teaching.
-
Practical Study Methods: Discover how to study the Bible topically, biographically, historically, and structurally to uncover hidden spiritual treasures.
-
The Power of Scripture Metaphors: Unpack the vivid world of biblical types, shadows, and symbols—seeing how every detail points directly to the person and work of Jesus Christ.
-
The Absolute Sufficiency of the Word: Deepen your confidence in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scripture as Pierson demonstrates its internal consistency and flawless design.
-
The Serious Bible Student: If you want to graduate from simple devotional readings into a robust, disciplined, and comprehensive mastery of biblical interpretation.
-
Pastors, Preachers, and Teachers: An absolute goldmine of structural frameworks, study methods, and expository approaches to enrich your weekly sermon and lesson preparation.
-
Small Group and Sunday School Leaders: The ultimate reference tool to help you guide others into a deeper, more accurate understanding of the text of Scripture.
"The Bible is like a vast mine of precious stones; he who contents himself with walking over the surface will find few, but he who digs deep will find the hidden wealth." — Dr. A.T. Pierson
