Kiro is changing the way developers plan, build, test, review, and deliver software.
Kiro AI Engineering is a practical, engineering-focused guide to using Kiro for modern AI-assisted and agentic software development. Rather than treating Kiro as just another coding assistant, this book shows you how to use its most important capabilities together as part of a complete development workflow.
You will learn how to move from a rough idea to a structured software solution using Spec-Driven Development, AI Coding Agents, Steering, Hooks, MCP, Custom Agents, Skills, CLI workflows, cloud sessions, testing, debugging, code review, and controlled automation.
Inside, you will learn how to:
* Understand how Kiro fits into modern software engineering
* Set up Kiro and work effectively with projects and repositories
* Write clearer development instructions and provide better context
* Turn ideas into requirements, technical designs, and implementation tasks
* Use Specs to guide development in a structured way
* Create Steering instructions that preserve project standards and knowledge
* Automate tests, linting, formatting, and repetitive work with Hooks
* Connect Kiro to external tools and services with MCP
* Build specialized Custom Agents for testing, documentation, and security review
* Use Skills and reusable agent capabilities across projects
* Debug failures using evidence instead of guesswork
* Generate meaningful unit, integration, and regression tests
* Refactor existing code while protecting working behavior
* Review AI-generated changes before accepting them
* Work with Kiro through the IDE, CLI, cloud sessions, branches, and pull requests
* Choose the right level of agent autonomy for different development tasks
* Build a complete application from requirements to production deployment
The book also explains an important principle that is often missing from AI coding guides: AI-generated code is not automatically correct. You will learn how to combine agent speed with human judgment, testing, permissions, review, security controls, and clear acceptance criteria.
Whether you are a software developer, programmer, engineering student, technical lead, or anyone exploring AI-assisted software development, this book gives you a clear path for using Kiro with more structure, confidence, and control.
Move beyond simple code generation.
Learn to plan with specs, guide agents with context, automate intelligently, verify every important change, and build real software with Kiro.
Start mastering Kiro AI Engineering and agentic software development today.
