Kinesiology is a required subject for every occupational therapy curriculum, yet there are no comprehensive, entry-level textbooks written for occupational therapy available on this subject. The kinesiology books available do not address the functional activities of daily living, and most are written from an exercise physiology, physical therapy or ergonomics perspective. Kinesiology is the first comprehensive textbook on the subject written by occupational therapists specifically for the OT market. It is the only kinesiology text that presents solutions to biomechanical problems with a shift in emphasis away from mathematics and trigonometry and towards sound logic based on kinesiologic and biomechanical principles. Its depth of coverage of wrist and hand pathokinesiology as well as normal kinesiologic function of the wrist and fingers is unique. This text links kinesiology to real human experience through the use of a cast of characters who appear in the many ongoing vignettes. * Because it's the only kinesiology/biomechanics text written by occupational therapists for occupational therapy students, examples, case studies and applications throughout the text apply specifically to clinical practice in OT, not other disciplines. * Helps students link kinesiology to real human experience through clinical vignettes, which feature clients/patients in day-to-day OT practice. * Includes an introductory chapter that emphasizes the importance of kinesiology/biomechanics to the practice of occupational therapy. * Covers both the upper and lower extremity. * Includes "A Closer Look" boxes which set key topics or complicated information apart and provide detailed explanations for better understanding of material. * Contains a thorough explanation of biomechanical analysis in Chapter 9. * Includes in-depth coverage of wrist and hand pathokinesiology as well as normal kinesiologic function of the wrist and fingers. * Features clearly written and easy-to-follow style. * Contains more than 200 illustrations and photos to facilitate understanding. * Includes problem-solving application questions at the end of each chapter to challenge the reader to answer questions based on the material learned. * Chapters contain key terms and outlines of chapter content. * Includes numerous helpful appendices that provide users with essential information.
