Let song and laughter enter into every occupation, whether it be a task or a game. Count it a privilege to live with the children, to play with them, and to see things from their point of view. Make all kinds of work seem to be play, because of the enjoyment that enters into it.
This book will have accomplished its purpose if, through its suggestions, it enables you to fill the waking hours of your children with beneficial occupations, for to a child the world is a big place and his ideas are be wildered when he is left entirely to himself. The direction you will thus be enabled to give to the children's play will in a large measure determine the ideals that are to influence their later lives, at the same time helping them to meet their problems and to perform their tasks with confidence and self-reliance.
