"Gripping read. Rich in detail and disturbingly dark." In West London, a young estate agent is brutally murdered. A quiet urban district is thrown into panic. Detective Inspector Scott Daley and Sergeant Deborah Whetstone discover uncanny similarities to a violent murder four years ago. Has a serial killer awoken? Soon the victims are linked to a mysterious group from the 1990s and a cloak of conspiracies and half-truths stretching back decades. The self-appointed leader of the group, the enigmatic Drew Carmichael, is the Svengali who binds them together in a web of lies and secrets, unable to break free. Suddenly, it is a race against time as the killer strikes again and the loyalties of the group are stretched to breaking point. Why has a seemingly unconnected group of people stayed so close? What deadly confidence do the all share? Which one has the least to lose and the most to gain? As allegiances begin to splinter, as accusations begin to fly, will Daley and Whetstone uncover the grudge stretching back decades to a killer with taste for revenge? Author Notes Ryan Stark's storytelling comes into it's own in a compelling tale of Traditional Detective stories, reminiscent of Noir and Pulp Fiction novels of the great British Detective authors. The interplay between the characters gives them another dimension, which draws you into the twists and turns of the plot, leaving you breathless. "Slowly building, reeling you in until you can't put it down." "Gripping read. Rich in detail and disturbingly dark. I'm looking forward to the follow-up. Unputdownable!" "I took this away on holiday and it kept me going through travel and quiet evenings nicely." "3 dimensional characters, plausible scenarios, gradually revealing the truth. Hurry up with the next one!".…

- Book 1 of 4: The Daley and Whetstone Crime Stories
A shocking murder. A hidden past.
A detective who must uncover the truth before the killer strikes again.
Dawn Silverton seemed to have it all—youth, beauty, and success. But when she is found murdered, her death shatters the Monday Club, a once-close group of university friends still tied together fifteen years later. Behind their polished lives lie secrets, rivalries, and betrayals that none of them can afford to see exposed.
For Detective Inspector Scott Daley and Sergeant Deborah Whetstone of the Metropolitan Police, the case is disturbingly familiar. Dawn’s brutal killing mirrors a murder from four years earlier—a crime that was never solved. As the detectives dig deeper, they uncover chilling parallels that suggest the same killer has returned.
Now the Murder Book is open again, and every lead draws Daley and Whetstone further into a dark web of lies, obsession, and revenge. The closer they get to the truth, the more dangerous the investigation becomes—because this time, the murderer is determined to finish what they started.
Killing by the Book is a gripping British detective thriller filled with twists, tension, and characters you won’t forget. Perfect for fans of gritty police procedurals, dark crime fiction, and authors like Ian Rankin, Peter James, and Val McDermid, this is a page-turning murder mystery that will keep you hooked until the very last page.
The first thrilling instalment in the Daley and Whetstone Crime Stories series.
