Spanning decades of British history, Killed in the Line of Duty traces the final hours of men and women who faced the most dangerous moments of policing: officers shot during robberies that spiralled out of control, stabbed while protecting strangers, ambushed on city streets, caught in terrorist attacks, or killed simply because they were first on the scene when everything went wrong. Some of these deaths made national headlines; others faded quickly from public view. Every one of them mattered.
More than a record of tragedy, this book is a portrait of a changing Britain — its crimes and crises, its communities under strain, and its evolving expectations of those who police its streets. Each case reveals not only the circumstances of an officer’s death, but the lasting consequences: families reshaped by loss, forces forever altered, and policies and practices changed in the aftermath.
Bound together by courage and service, these stories ensure that fallen officers are remembered not only for how they died, but for who they were, and the price they paid in the line of duty.

About the Author
Phil Drake is a British author specialising in true crime, horror and dark non-fiction. His fascination with criminal cases, unexplained disappearances and the darker side of history has inspired several books, including Unsolved Murders of the UK and The World’s Worst Miscarriages of Justice.
He first began writing with The Spooky South, an exploration of haunted locations across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, before going on to have two short horror stories published in anthologies by Corona Books. Phil has also completed an Open University course in forensic psychology, further deepening his interest in criminal behaviour and unsolved cases.
When he is not writing, Phil enjoys watercolour painting, reading thrillers and crime fiction, and attending football and cricket matches.
