About this Item
Publlished by George Allen & Unwin for the Navy Records Society, Aldershot, in three volumes, viz.: vol. I, 1914-1918, 1979, being volume 117 of the Society publications series; vol. II, 1919-1938, 1980, being volume 121 of the series; vol. III, 1939-1945, 1981, being volume 122 of the series; 8vo, 155 x 230mm; pp xxiv, 547, xiv, 468, xiv, 398 plus in each volume the list of the Society's publications in the series to date; somewhat curiously bound in that vol. III is in the standard blue cloth gilt, volume II is in a light blue cloth gilt and vol. I is in a thicker weave of cloth and a darker shade of blue (although this appears to be the standard approach rather than an aberration with this set); vol. II is also dated wrongly 1979 on the spine and for no obvious reason 64pp of vol. I are priinted on a different paper with a light brown cast to it; no dust wrapper called for; frontispiece of Keyes at different and appropriate ages in each volume together with a number of plans and charts; slight fading of the spines but otherwise in very good condition. . . . . . Born in 1872 in the Punjab, Roger Keyes, later Baron Keyes, saw naval service from 1885 to 1935 and again in 1940 to 1941, eventually becoming Admiral of the Fleet and dying in the last days of 1945. He saw active service in the Boxer Rebellion and both the first and second world wars. Seller Inventory # 001225
