"The Key of Solomon The King - Illustrated Edition" translated by S. L. MacGregor Mathers with a new foreword by Joseph Peterson, unveils a mystical journey into the depths of Renaissance magic and occult wisdom. Attributed to the legendary King Solomon, this essential grimoire, dating back to at least the 14th century, is a revered text in the study of the dark and magical arts.
This tome, a vital piece for any adept or student of the occult, is believed to have originated during the Italian Renaissance, drawing inspiration from Jewish kabbalists and Arab alchemists. It stands as a classic representation of Renaissance magical practices, reflecting the era's revived interest in Hermeticism and esoteric knowledge. "The Key of Solomon The King" is divided into two distinctive parts, each rich in ritualistic magic and arcane wisdom. The first part delves into invocations, spells, and curses designed to summon and bind demons and spirits to the conjuror’s will, revealing secrets to invisibility, finding stolen items, and securing love or favor. The second part details the necessary purifications the conjuror must undergo before performing the spells, guiding the reader in the appropriate dress and magical implements required for these ancient rituals.
Beyond its practical applications, this grimoire has significantly influenced the revival of magic and the Western Mystery Traditions, spanning areas like tarot, alchemy, and astrology, and even inspiring fictional works such as Lovecraft's "The Necronomicon." Purported to be penned by King Solomon himself, the book provides comprehensive instruction for incantations, rituals, and sigils used to call upon and master spirits and demons. Its extensive use through the centuries by those practicing magic has cemented its place as a cornerstone of esoteric tradition, yet its true origins and purposes are as mystical and enigmatic as the knowledge it imparts.
A staple in the library of contemporary occult students and practicing magicians, "The Key of Solomon The King" remains an unrivaled standard of esoteric lore. This illustrated edition, enriched with Joseph Peterson's insightful foreword, offers a fresh perspective on this ancient text, making it an indispensable resource for those seeking to explore the depths of magical knowledge and practice.
