Keratoconus: Understanding, Managing, and Thriving
By Chandrashekhar Chawan, PhD, FSLS, FAAO and Dr Quresh Maskati MS, DOMS, FCPS, FICS
Is your world starting to blur?
Do lights look like stars or ghosts?
Have you been told you have keratoconus — and left with more questions than answers?
You’re not alone. And this book is your guide through it all.
Keratoconus: Understanding, Managing, and ThrivingA groundbreaking 38-chapter journey through vision, resilience, and recovery.
Written by Dr. Chandrashekhar Chawan one of India’s most experienced and celebrity optometrists and researchers, and Dr Quresh Maskati, Internationally famous Corneal Surgeon. This book brings together 36 years of expertise, over 5000 treated cases, and the full spectrum of modern surgical and non-surgical treatments — from scleral lenses and cross-linking to custom high-order aberration optics.
What You’ll Discover Inside:
Real-life patient stories of all ages
Proven treatment options, risks, and contraindications
Step-by-step guidance on lens care, hygiene, and follow-ups
High-resolution illustrations and medical infographics
Emotional support, depression coping tools, and myth-busting facts
Success pathways — even after corneal transplants
Powerful Q&A and a full glossary for clarity and confidence
“Your cornea may be conical — but your future is limitless.”
Whether you're a patient, parent, partner, or practitioner, this book offers:
- Hope in diagnosis
- Confidence in treatment
- Clarity in vision
- And courage in the journey ahead
You’ll find here not only scientific explanations but also case stories, myths and facts, answers to real-life patient questions, mental health support, and the day-to-day challenges patients face — socially, financially, and emotionally. You’ll also meet patients who have succeeded — children who returned to school, adults who resumed work, and elderly patients who regained independence.
This book is written in a friendly, empathetic voice — the voice I’ve used with every patient who sat in front of me confused and scared. My hope is that by the time you close the last page, you’ll feel more confident, more informed, and more hopeful — whether you are living with keratoconus or helping someone who is.
Read this book. Gift it. Recommend it. It could change how someone sees the world — and themselves.
