About this Item
18cm. 205[1]pp. Contemporary unlettered maroon grained cloth, MS. paper spine label. Spine faded; prelims lightly browned and spotted. Written in a series of twelve letters with additional notes (pp 105-205). "In giving an account of the T`raditions and recollections of Kelso, ' we do not think we can commence more worthily than by reprinting a history of Kelso, published here, by James Palmer, in the year 1789. The work was the production of Robert Mason, under the quaint signature of Ebenezer Lazarus, and may itself rank as a tradition, since the reprint is made from almost the only copy known to be extant. The changes effected in the town and neighbourhood by the operations of time will be found in the Notes." The work of Robert Mason is found in pages 4-104, and the title runs: A particular description of the town of Kelso; with a plain and undisguised account of its admirable and delightful situation. By Ebenezer Lazarus. Kelso: Printed for the author. Anno 1789. Seller Inventory # 45561
