Heavy quarto, swirling-paterned marbled boards, quarter-bound with mid-brown leather spine, intricately worked in gilt decorative pattern.Leather labels near top and tail of spine : 'R KIPLING' and 'KIM' in gilt. Top edge gilt. A little bumping wear to corners and a few scratches to rear panel, nothing major. Some light rubbling/wear to leather, spine top area. Eps with attractive gold and turquoise marbled-effect patern, front pastedown having small label: EX-LIBRIS PAUL GAVAULT. 279pp. Tight, bright and clean, with minimal age-toning and evidence of handling.Silk page ribbon attached. Profusely illus. by Charles Fouqueray, with b/w drawings set amongst the text, decorative chapter headings and full-page monochrome plates from the original watercolours. Overall, a handsome volume.
