A boy's father departs for war on his son's first birthday. At age three he is orphaned by his father's death a half a world away. For fifty-five years the boy has two photos and a Purple Heart representing the father he never knew. In his late fifties he discovers a desire to know this man called his father. Twelve years of research reveals the life and the death of this man called Dad. This is a story of discovery and of revelation, a search driven by a desire to know and, at times, slowed by the fear of knowing. Was he a good man? The story reveals the truth of who he was, and now is, in the mind of his son.
