Print on Demand. This book explores the political, economic, and social upheaval that swept through Michigan in the wake of devastating forest fires that raged through parts of the state in 1882, killing hundreds and destroying countless homes, businesses, and farms. The author draws upon extensive research, including legislative records, newspaper articles, and firsthand accounts, to bring clarity to the state's response to the disaster, including the aid provided to victims. This book also contextualizes the incident within broader themes of natural disasters and government’s efforts to assist its people in times of crisis. It's a thought-provoking work that will appeal to anyone interested in Michigan history, natural disaster relief efforts, and the relationship between citizens and their government. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The Speaker announced that a quorum of the House was present.
The Speaker announced that he had received official information of the death of Hon. Frank Kendrick, member from the second district of Lapeer county, and of the election of Hon. Frederick H. Hill, to fill the vacancy caused thereby, as shown by a certificate of said election from the Secretary of State now on file with the Clerk of this House.
The Speaker then requested the member elect to come forward, take and subscribe the constitutional oath of office.
