About John Thompson
I have been selling books in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada since about 1988. My specialty is classics, literature, scholarly, unusual non-fiction and classic works of non-fiction, science fiction and vintage paperbacks. I am a home based business. What makes my business a bit different is that I bring the stock to my clients, rather than having a store and hoping they will come to me. So I travel to both universities in Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg. Also I have been to the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan. In the summers I do the Osborne Village Street festival for Canada Day and the Fringe Festival, Quarry Day in Stonewall and other such festivals. Throughout the year I do a variety of other markets and shows and have traveled as far west as Calgary to be a vendor at a show. I have been selling on line since 1999. I also am a regular vendor at Thirsty's Flea Market, 1111 Ellice between Erin and Wall. There I deal in video games, movies, CDs, records, and collectibles.

Seller policies
- Terms of sale- Payments: Payment can be made by cheque, money order VISA and MASTER CARD.
Cheques and money orders should be made payable to, John Thompson, and U.S.
cheques or money orders are no problem for my bank. My prices are listed in US
dollars. Americans Please Note: Postal Money orders
from the U.S. must be marked as International Money Orders (pink/orange color).
My bank will no longer accept those marked cashable in U.S. and possessions only
(green color)! When mailing payment, please make sure your letter has sufficient
postage, as the U.S. Postal Service does charge more for letters mailed to
Canada. It is always helpful to mention what book you're ordering in your
letter. For VISA & Master Card orders, I need your credit card number, its
expiry date and your name as it appears on the card. Credit card orders can then
be shipped right away. US & overseas buyers, please be sure to mention if you
want regular mail or air mail with your order.- Abebooks.com orders: You can also order with your credit card through abe's
secure web site. The postage is automatically calculated and added. If the
amount is too high, say on multiple book orders, or too low, I can adjust the
amount. You then have the option of accepting or rejecting the new charge. There
is no way that the charge can increase without your approval. Of course, the
amount can be decreased without your approval. Canadian buyers note that I will
increase the charge for the GST, as abe does not automatically include this in
the total (tax number 140096355RT0001). Orders sent to the US or overseas are
often sent via Canada Post's small packet rate, which is cheaper than parcel
(order must weigh less than 1 kilogram, above that is parcel only). Both surface
mail and air mail are available that way. The small packet rate is not available
for packages sent to a Canadian address, so I have to send via parcel rate,
unless the order is thin and light enough to ship as an oversize letter.
Oversize letter orders must be less than 20 millimeters thick and less than 500
grams. The letter rate is always first class and may be cheaper than small
packet for US orders (this will always be cheaper than parcel for Canadian
orders). If you order directly from me I can give you an exact shipping amount.
As previously mentioned, with abebooks.com orders I can adjust the shipping if
it's too low (subject to your approval) or too high.- I am gradually scanning pictures of all the books in my data base and I can scan one for you if you would like to see what the book looks like. I have been working my way back chronologically through the data base via my book inventory numbers, so lower inventory numbers usually do not have my scanned images. It will likel;y take a couple of years for this to get completed. - Phone calls: I'm usually available from 6 to 9 PM central time, weekends
included. The number below is my home number as I have a home based business. I
would appreciate it if you could confine your calls to between 7 am and 10 pm
central time. If I am out you can leave a message on my machine which goes on
after the 4th ring. It's always a good idea to e-mail your address, as errors
may occur from voice messages. You can reach me at 204-837-8898. I'm always out
during the day on weekends, and am in and out during the day on weekdays. I do
check my email at least once a day, and I confirm all orders. My web site is http://bookmanonline.com .- My business address:
