VINTAGESTAN BOOKS Title: John McCormack. A Comprehensive Discography. Summary: The book is a detailed reference work documenting the recorded career of the Irish tenor John McCormack (1884–1945). The book purposes: • To document McCormack's recordings. The authors arrange the recordings chronologically according to recording sessions, providing the kind of matrix, recording and release information needed by collectors and researchers. • To place the recordings in artistic context. A substantial introductory chapter, “The Art of John McCormack and the Phonograph,” discusses his vocal technique, artistic development and relationship with the emerging recording medium. A particularly useful feature is the alphabetical index of songs and titles, allowing a researcher to find a particular song without having to know when it was recorded. The volume also contains a bibliography and artist index. Compiled by: Paul W. Worth and Jim Cartwright Publisher: Greenwood Press.
