Paperback. Third edition, revised. A thinking Christian, following Jesus for a lifetime, ponders the meaning of this common, widely promoted view of the meaning of Jesus' death. He finds this view is an "add-on," not found either in the Gospels, writings of St. Paul, or early Christianity. Nor is it part of Eastern Orthodoxy, but developed later. He finds the idea that God required, wanted, or allowed the death of Jesus as a payment not only absurd but enormously harmful to the entire Christian enterprise. It obscures the stunning challenges of Jesus' life, calling us to total transformation. He summons believers to re-examine their faith. A short, fascinating read for anyone puzzled or put-off" by this blood payment teaching. Dr. Paschal Baute, a Pastoral Psychologist, holds that we are created to bring thinking and questioning brains to our faith views and practice. This item is printed on demand.
