Neuware - 'Jean Racine Politique' is an insightful critical study by Lucien Dubech that explores the complex relationship between the celebrated 17th-century French dramatist Jean Racine and the political landscape of his era. Dubech delves into the underlying political themes within Racine's tragedies, examining how the power dynamics of the court of Louis XIV influenced his literary output and personal trajectory. The work provides a thorough examination of Racine not merely as a master of verse and emotion, but as a figure deeply embedded in the ideological currents of the Grand Siècle. Through an analysis of plays such as 'Andromaque,' 'Britannicus,' and 'Athalie,' Dubech illustrates how Racine's portrayals of kingship, legitimacy, and statecraft reflected the tensions of the French monarchy. This study is essential for readers interested in the intersection of literature and power, offering a nuanced perspective on one of France's greatest playwrights and his role in the cultural politics of the seventeenth century. Dubech's prose captures the intellectual rigor of the period, making this an invaluable resource for scholars of French literature and political history alike. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
