Tan wraps with overlapped textblock [Yapp] with a color paste-on illustration and titles on the front and spine. 7 7/8 inches tall; 110 pages. Text in Japanese and English. Color Illustrations by Senpan Maekawa. The bindings are tight and square. Text clean, light even toning. Moderate shelf handling wear with folds to the overlapped wraps, spine modestly age-toned. Ownership stamp on half-title page. . Japanese wisdom, and traditional knowledge presented in English and Japanese for an English speaking tourist, dated 1940 only a year prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor. More than lists of sayings, this is a useful introduction to Japanese wisdom, and traditional knowledge. Containing narrative on meanings and origins, kinds and characteristics, modern forms and plebian.
