FIRST EDITION. 4to. 11.25 x 8.5 inches. 244 pp. Bound in original brown cloth, gilt, in unclipped pictorial dust wrapper, which has minor wear and account of Harold Day on rear wrapper; otherwise a very good copy. Illustrated by 6 colour plates at the beginning of each section and by over 218 black and white text figures. Decorated by pictorial title page in colour with publisher's device on verso. Pictorial endpapers. An illustrated catalogue of Constable's drawings in six main sections, Landscape, Building, Seascape, Portrait, Tree and Various Studies. The appendices include records of previous art sales including Constable drawings. Compiled by Harold Armstrong Edward Day (1924-2010), art collector and advisor, and writer on East Anglian art. Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields. We also offer a bookbinding and restoration service. Visitors to the shop are welcome and we exhibit at UK book fairs.
