Add to basketA decade’s worth of spectacular works by renowned glass artist Jeff Zimmerman, a maker at the height of his creative power
Covering the most creative period of this premier glass artist’s output, Jeff Zimmerman: Glass Light Space documents how he has pushed the boundaries of glassmaking for more than three decades. Trained in classical glass techniques, Zimmerman creates sculptural objects and installations that actively engage with the experience of color, light, and the natural environment.
Published in collaboration with the renowned gallery R & Company in New York, this book demonstrates Zimmerman’s singular ability to coax the unique properties of glass to emphasize the aesthetic and emotional experience of functional objects, inspiring a generation of collectors, glass artists, and lighting designers.
Glenn Adamson is a curator and historian who was previously Director of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and Head of Research at the V&A, London. He is the author and coauthor of numerous books including Gaetano Pesce: The Complete Incoherence (2023), Lino Tagliapietra: Sculptor in Glass (2023), and Objects: USA 2020 (2020), all published by Monacelli.
Tony Ingrao is co-founder of internationally acclaimed architecture and design firm Ingrao Inc.
Zesty Meyers is cofounder and principal of R & Company.
Brett Littman is Senior Director, Americas of the Carpenter’s Workshop Gallery.
World-renowned glass artist Jeff Zimmerman (b. 1968) took his first glass-blowing class in 1988 and decided to pursue his BFA at the Appalachian Center for Craft in Tennessee to learn classical glassblowing. He later worked and traveled throughout Europe to study with esteemed artists and studios, including CIRVA in France, and Robert Wilson, Gaetano Pesce, and Robert Morris.
Zimmerman debuted his first solo installation in 1999 at the Robert Lehman Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, and since then established a successful solo practice. Zimmerman regularly collaborates with architects and interior designers to make custom commissions of illuminated sculptures within his rich lexicon of natural forms and patterns.
Zimmerman has exhibited at galleries and institutions internationally, including Sean Kelly Gallery, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and Perrotin in Paris. His work is in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass and the Boghossian Foundation in Belgium and private collections worldwide. Zimmerman lives and works between Brooklyn, New York, and Portland, Washington.
